Hollywood beauty Michelle Yeoh says Nepal is beautiful and Nepalis are labourious
Kathmandu, 24 June – Renowned Hollywood actress Michelle Yeoh has said that Nepal is a beautiful country and Nepalis are laborious people.
In an interaction with parliamentarians on Friday, Yeoh expressed happiness in visiting Nepal for the second time. She was in Nepal last year when earthquake struck the country.
“I have found Nepal beautiful and the people laborious,” she said.
Goodwill ambassador of the UNDP, Yeoh said that Nepal would be able to meet the target of sustainable development.
Saying that simple Nepalis are trying to revive from effects of earthquake, she urged the world to lend a hand to Nepal in reconstruction efforts.
Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa, presiding over the interaction programme, said that he watches Yeoh’s movies.
“You have a huge fan following in Nepal. We have been watching your movies for a long time,” Thapa said. “We are happy to meet you in person.”
Earlier Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Ananda Pokharel had requested Yeoh to spread the message across the world that Nepal is a safe destination for travelling.
Yeoh is scheduled to visit Bouddhanath on Friday and Bhaktapur Durbar Square on Saturday.
Journalists affiliated with international media have come to Nepal to cover Yeoh’s visit.
Actress of Malyasian-Chinese descent, Yeoh has played in blockbusters including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha.
